    returned to Castletown - not having got the appointment as Viceroy. He asked Mr. Cox for a few rooms, but the latter kindly vacated the Court and returned to Callan.
    When the Archbishopric of Cashel became vacant Mr. Cox was appointed, through the influence of Colonel Butler at a salary of £25,000 a year. Shortly after this Archbishop Cox took up residence in Castletown and started to build the New Court which took twenty one years to complete. This is the present Castletown Court.
    It is interesting to note that it was at Dalton's Old Court that Freeney committed his first robbery. He reversed the shoes on his horse so as
