- The village of Knocktopher is situated about half way between Kilkenny and Waterford.
It contains many historic objects, amongst which is the one I now describe Darcy's Moat.
On the northern side of the Carmelite Church a great mound almost as high as the house tops can be seen. It is encircled by water.
This was the residence of chiefs in the olden times and is supposed to have numerous chambers containing valuable gold and silver vessels.
Antiquarians often contemplated exploring it but the owner refused to give permission.- Collector
