- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)May angels tread thy waves, O Nore!
And guardian spirits watch thee Nore!
Till my last sigh to God shall fly,
I'll love thy winding banks, O Nore.
II
I mind it well when but a child-
My playground was the mountain wild,
Of love, and hope, and heaven to dream
By roseate hedge and hillside stream,
And when my young compeers would go
To bustling sports, my heart would glow
To see the summer sunset pour
Its beauties on thy banks, O Nore.
May angels tread, etc.
III
And thou who wandering by my side
With bounding limbs and beauty's pride,
Who tossed away the flowers I pulled
And mocked each sweet thing that I culled -
Alas, alas! where are thee now,
And who can tell thy "why" and "how"?
Black desolation sweeps each shore
Of my once bonny winding Nore.
May angels tread etc.
