The floors were made of common earth or clay and were often quite damp. On most houses there were two pilchen doors opposite each other on the outerwalls. Generally the floor-space directly between these two doors was paved with small stones well shooted with flags.
In almost every townland in the school area there were many such houses of which there is not a trace at present. In Annagh district adjoining Lough Gara there stood 19 such houses. In their stead is one farmer's house at present (McMartin Tardes)
