1. The Great Snow

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   The greatest snowfall we ever had in this county fell on the 6th of March 1867.
   Roads and fields were clothed in a garb of white almost a fortnight.
   There was also a storm going with the heavy fall of snow which added to the misery of the people.
   The mail coaches travelling through the country had to halt on the wayside because the horses were frozen to death on the road.
   Many people travelling on journeys were covered with the snow which was falling so thick that it covered many feet of ground.
   Many fishermen who were out at sea when the storm began had to seek shelter in the nearest harbour where the boats were dashed to
