- Local HappeningsThe local happenings that are remembered most commonly in this district are connected with shipwrecks. This is an account of one of them.On the 17th of March 1867 a great sailing vessel was wrecked in Crookhaven harbour. The Wolverene was her name and she belonged to Greenock in Scotland. She sailed from the West Indies with a cargo of rum for England. On her way storms forced her to come into Crookhaven harbour, where she remained for a few days. A terrible storm blew from the south east which caused her to drift her anchor. She struck the land to the east of the Lighthouse, and became a total wreck. Her crew were saved by the natives of Crookhaven(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
