- Many pious objects are hung in houses and used for certain purposes. The most common pious articles used locally are holy crosses and branches which are used on certain feasts. Crosses are made on St Brigid's eve. They are usually made of rushes or straw. First the rushes are got. The rushes are woven up and down and across one another in the shape of a cross. Then each end is tied with a cord or string. These crosses are usually made by children.
