- There are four forges in the Boherbue district.
Christopher OSullivan, and Mick Sheahan are in Boherbue. Near Gorteeragh Cross is Pat Fitzgerald and near Keelnahulla Cross, Daniel O'Connor.
OSullivan's father was a smith. He has been dead for 40 years.
Forges have been in hands of the OConnors of Keelnahulla for a long time also.
All these forges are near cross-roads. They are just the size of an ordinary room. They are coursed with boards and felt and are tarred. The doors are just ordinary doors. There is one fire-place in each on a raised platform. At the back of the platform is a large bellows worked by leverage. These were not of course made locally.
The smith uses an anvil, pincers, rasp, knife, hammer, sledge, vice
Farm implements are not made in any of these forges but gates are made by most smiths. Sometimes also they make grates and cranes for holding hangers for pots.
The smiths band wheels in the open air. They make a big fire on a site where a kind of shape into which they place the week is constructed, and here the banding is done.
All these forges were and are entries of story-telling(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
