“In a further talk with Denis Dennehy (64) of Scrahan he spoke of the Church, the times, the people and their "clanishness".”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)"All the men and money
From Kildare to Naas,
Couldnt put a nose,
On the Colonel's face."Denis Dennehy remembers as a young man to be employed at the quaying of the River Blackwater north of Lacka Cross at a place called the Cumars (see Chart)
The contractor OKeeffe from Kiskeam wanted the stones as strong and as big as possible. The stones at the Craig in the townland of Baille na hulla were shown to him - some of them were four tons or more.
OKeeffe was informed that these stones were looked upon as Head-stones and that tradition had it that the Nohoval graveyard was previously in that place. This did not worry O'Keeffe. He had the stones blasted and put into the river. Some of the workmen notably Denis OBrien from Lacka (na Stooka) were slow to touch the venerable old rocks but he had to forget his fear and get to work. At this place lights were seen at night an unbaptised children were and are buried there. The Cumars(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
