    that the wheat was sown for many weeks and they turned back giving up the search as useless. This little tale gets much credit and in many instances believed in spite of its nonsence.
    When the corn-crake speaks he says; "Corn-crake, out late, looking for a bit, to eat. Tell men to eat meat." This bird is supposed to stay in a dyke during the Winter, and makes its way to a corn field or meadow in April from where its voice is heard through the entire summer.
    The cuckoo comes about the same time as the corncrake and is heard during the same period.
