- In olden times marriages took place at any time after Christmas to Shrove Tuesday. The month of May and December were considered unlucky months as was the harvest, "What's tied in the harvest is ripped in the spring." Monday, Wednesday and Friday are also unlucky. In this townland there is a belief that when there are two marriages in twelve months a third is bound to follow. Matches were made and the dowry or fortune was calculated at so much money for so many cows after a day of celebration at the bride's house. The couple were married either at the bride's house or at the chapel in the evening. Afterwards there was the "hauling home" to the new home, where festivities were continued until morning.
