“The father of the late Catholic Bishop of Cork (most Rev. Dr. Thos. O'Callaghan) hailed from Áth na Cise...”
The father of the late Catholic Bishop of Cork (Most Rev. Dr. Thos. O'Callaghan) hailed from Áth na Cise about 5 miles from here. He was a relative of our family, and the headstone on our grave here bears the inspection Jeremiah O'Callaghan. He was uncle to the Bishop
The Bishop's father and mother removed to Cork city, and lived there.
One day the mother went into a Church in Cork with her small boy Thomas to say their prayers.
While there Fr. Theobald Matthew (the Apostle of Temperance) passed down through the centre of the Church. He stopped when he saw the child and his mother.
He did not know them, and had never seen them before(continues on next page)- Collector
