When the castle was taken Cromwell's soldiers could not find the gold as the entrance to the tunnel had been covered in when cellars were filled with the debris of the walls, and it has not been found since. It is believed that it still lays in the tunnel. Some time ago the people who are in charge of the castle tried to find the gold, but failed to get any trace of it. They dug deeply into the cellars of the ruin and removed a great deal of rubbish, but did not succeed in locating the entrance to the tunnel. In the course of their operations they found some rusty swords and spearheads.The above account was got by James O'Donnell from his father
