- Travelling People
Travelling people still call to this district but they do not come now as often as before. The same people have been doing so for years. They are not very poor. Some of them sell small articles such as laces, polish matches and safety pins. People sometimes buy from them. In local villages or country shops they obtain their supplies. These travellers are generally welcome. They sometimes remain for four or five days. They have camps with them in which they sleep. It is seldom they have food with them. They ask it in the people's house's. Tea and sugar, flour, milk, meat, and other food are the alms they accept. The Falkeners the O Briens the Quilligens and McCarthys frequently visit our district. They do not travel on foot. They have cars and caravans in which they travel from place to place. The caravans are made of wood and canvas. They usually travel in families. The family of the O Briens most frequently visit our district. They have no special time for coming. They usually remain in the towns for every fair. When they come they tell stories and bring news from outlying counties
At the present time the people do not gather around to hear them.
