- During the famine years 1846-47 the people around were very badly off for the want of food. When the potatoes failed and they had no corn around here a great many went down to the low lands of County Limerick where corn was plentiful. Old people say crowds used to search the turnip gardens for any turnips that may be left. The most remarkable thing they say about these years are the number of people around Feales-Bridge who changed their religion and became soupers as the Protestants would give them food if they would change their religion. There were so many Protestants around Feales-Bridge that they built a Protestant church and Protestant school there for the people.
