- It is very interesting to know of all that took place in Ireland long ago and surely it is a great pleasure to be able to locate the reputed hiding-place of the treasures which our ancestors are said to have buried for safety "when days were dark".
In our farm in Lismakera, about two miles from Askeaton, on the right-hand side of the road, lies a treasure. Its resting place is not far from the road, which runs from Askeaton to Newbridge, and is situated in front of Lismakeera House. Lismakeera and its surroundings are connected with the Danes and it is said that people of Danish origin occupied the Castle when Cromwell was in Ireland. At the approach of the Cromwellian army the owners of the castle buried a considerable quantity of gold, but as they were all killed the gold lies buried there still.
Several attempts have been made to unearth it but without success. People from Castlemahon visited the place also in quest of the gold but still it defies all effort at recovery as the is a faithful keeper of the secret(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
