- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)lived on the bank of the Deel. It was customary with the farmer to go to fairs at a very early hour in the morning. One morning he got up as usual to go, he ate his breakfast and bade his wife good-bye. His wife, being still in bed, settled herself to sleep but she heard something moving stealthly about the kitchen and as she considered, peeping into every place. Next her kitchen visitor came into the bedroom and she was very frightened. She found the breath upon her and the hair carressing her face and she nearly fainted. Her early morning visitor then withdrew bidding her good-bye in the language of her pet goat.
- A man who lived near Askeaton had a farm about two miles away. He reared sheep on the outside farm and was very surprised when he found one dead when he visited the place one morning. However, he took the sheep home in his car and bleated in imitation of the sheep when anybody approached. Thus everybody thought the sheep was alive. The owner divided the dead sheep among his neighbours, who were delighted to get it, thinking of course that he had killed the sheep for their benefit, but what was(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
