- Long ago it was usual that the marriage ceremony should take place in the bridegroom's house. The ceremony usually took place in the evenings and a big dance was given that night.
Another custom was that if the marriage did take place in a church the bride and bridegroom did not see each other until they reached the church. The bridegroom must be at the Church first, and the pair to be married must not sleep in the same house or under the one roof the previous night. (These are still adhered to in this district.) The bride must not return home to see her parents for a month and when she does come, a big party is given in her honour. This night was called the "Hauling home".- Bailitheoir
