    applies to the calves.
    The cowhouses are long and narrow being fitted with bales according to number. The bales are of iron round in shape and when the head enters they close up and a trough of water is kept at the head.
    There are also wooden bales which are made with a long plank of wood crossing the house and from which hangs two timber posts for the head and are closed with iron pins.
    In by-gone years the cows were milked in the open air and were tied with chains to a block of wood. This custom is still kept up.
