  1. Old Crafts
Mary Eagan who lived at the cross of Lough Gur, about fifty years ago was a great candle-maker. She was married to Bob Pillan. Every-day she used to go to the boy for rushes. She would bring a bundle of them with her and steep them in tallow for a few days. Then she would hang them up on the rafters. Every night she would take a rush and attach it on a candle stick called a sconce.
Basket-making was carried on to a great extent in Lough Gur in former days. During the long winter nights the people used to set by the turf fires and make baskets from sallies. A great basket maker was Phil Fitz Gerald who lived at Collipies corner Lough Guir about fifty six years ago.
