    looking for things around the house. The "dips" were made of rushes and tallow. The rushes were peeled and dipped in tallow and allowed to dry. The walls of the old houses were made of mud and stones and were sometimes three feet thick. the small houses used to be built mostly of sods. In the old houses there used to be small cupboards near the fire for keeping things dry such as salt and flour and other things. The floors were made of clay. The bottoms of the chairs were made of suggans.
