- There are a great many deer in the big wood. They are not very big, but sometimes a rather big one is seen. They roam all over the wood, but seldom go out of their bounds. If a garden is near the wood they eat all the vegetables. Sometimes they knock pikes of hay and do other damage.
Up to two or three years ago, they used to have an annual shoot. Some deer have a darker colour than others. Once a white deer was brought but he was shot. They mostly keep in cover in the daytime. The buck deer has two big branching horns. People like to preserve a buck deer's head.- Collector
