from Cork steered right into the wreck and took the crew away. The men that were rescued by the Quilty fishermen were sent to Dublin there they were met by the French Consul. The French Government were so thankful to the Quilty fishermen that they collected a large sum of money and gave it to them. They spent the money in erecting a church in Quilty the name it got was "The Star of the Sea".A Limerick poet described it in the following verse.
"This proud craft she sailed from a port far away
She came proudly and well till she came to Malbay
And there she was wrecked on the treacherous shore
And we scarcely could reach her by
    sail or by oar."
