- Long ago men never used to wear boots until they would be twenty one years of age, the women used to wear boots before the men.
There is no people in the district who never wore boots.
Nearly all the boys go bare-footed to school in Summer, but the girls wear light shoes to keep their feet from the pebbles.
There is nothing done with the water that is left after washing the feet.
The water that is left after washing a dead person is buried and all the things the person used while they were alive are also buried.
Clogs are not worn very much now but in former times they used to be made locally and worn locally.
It is about fifty years since clogs were worn in the district. There were six shoe makers in the district long ago but there are only three now.
The reason the shoe making trade got less was because when the old shoe makers died the people who were left did not keep on the trade.
