- There is a moat at Dromin, which means "rounded as a pig's back" Probably the Black Pig that came to grief at Mayne Muck rested there. The guardian of this moat was an old hag whom the people called the "Caillach of the Ravel." She was the very devil incarnate and took the eggs from the neighbours cows, and the butter from their cows. She was one evening engaged at her nefarious game at the foot of the moat, repeating in an audible voice - "All the butter to me" "all the butter to me" when a horseman on his way home from Ardee heard her, and called out in derision - "and some to me ye old hag ye." Well I declare when he alighted from his horse at the stage-coach yard the butter was coming through the lacing of riding boots.
