- Spinning was very common in this and in every other district in former years. Seveal old people boast with pride of their spinning wheels. They were very well made and after all these years could still be put into use.
Weaving was fairly common too and the old people in the district could tell you the particular rooms in which the weaving was done.
Ploughs were made in Navan about forty years ago by a man named Mason. He lived in this district at one time.
There was a tannery in Navan in former years too and carried on a big trade.
Barrels, and churns, and firkins, were made a couple of hundred yards away from this school by a cooper about fifty years ago. His name was Mc Gee.
Lime kilns were common in former years and the lime put on the land. Bective is the nearest kiln in use now.
Candle making was a necessary industry long ago. The women folk of the family collected rushes. They were then peeled and dipped in hot fat and allowed to dry. The process was repeated untill the necessary thickness was acquired and they were ready(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
