A Local Song
“There is a creamy pony I knew when I was a boy.”
Rickie Healy of Derrylangan Athboy bought and old pony to cart gravel. One morning the pony strayed off and where should he stop but outside the barrack in Athboy. John Fitzsimons Tullaghanstown Navan made the following song about the event. N.B. Nugenstown mentioned in the song is the place whre the Meath hounds are kept and old horses are often brought there to be used as food for the dogs. There is a creamy pony,
I knew when I a boy,
He spent his youth in Courtown,
Where no guards he did annoy,
And often with the royal Meath,
He hunted long ago,
And even though the fence was big
No cowardice did show,
In September and October,
At every local fair,
Its with the shrops and suffolks.
The creamy he'd be there.
From Summerhill down to Ardee,
From Delvin to Ratoath.
There's not a man in need of a ram,
But knew the Courtown float.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
