   There is a good portion of the tillage land in this locality under potatoes. The reason of this is because potatoes form a large part of the peoples' food, and pigs, fowl, and other stock of the farm are fed on them. In the country no one thinks the dinner is complete unless there are potatoes on the table. Althought there is none of them in this district there are alcohol factories which buy the surplus potatoes from the farmers and there is always a market for them. Potatoes are planted in ridges and drills. Ridges are cut about three feet with with the plough. The farmyard manure is then spread on the ridge and the seed potatoes are dropped in three rows on the ridge about nine inches apart each way. If artificial manure is needed it is then shaken over the ridge and men shovel
