- In former times the inhabitants of Moyvoughly did not consult doctors about their ailments, but trusted to their own remedies to cure their ills. They also visited holy wells and made pilgrimages to them for certain periods.
St. Patrick's Well situated in Moyvoughly has always been noted for curing warts, sore throats, and other ailments. Throngs of people came from far and near to make pilgrimages to this renowned spot and man cures were wrought there.
Another cure, for those suffering from warts, was to rub a black snail on the affected part and then to leave the insect to wither, stuck on a gooseberry thorn. Those suffering from whooping-cough obtained bread made by a woman whose name remained unaltered after marriage.
