The women of the house cuts the greater portion of the scalps some days before, so that everything is ready and the men can go to their work shortly after sunrise.
The most common type of potatoes sown around Moyvoughly are: "Epicures", "Champions," and "Aran Banners," are also common. A new type called "Kerrs Whites" has also been introduced and proved very promising.
When the farmer goes to reap his crop in the Autumn he generally brings his children to do the picking. He stores his results in pits, which are about one foot in depth. He mounds the clay over them and thatches them with hay, through which the hardest front can not penetrate.
