- There was a hidden found at Ballymahon perhaps one hundred and twenty years ago in the yard of the premises now of Mr. Flood,Auctioneer. At the time the treasure was found the yard was owned by Matthew Dowdall and he used it as a tanyard. He had men employed sinking the yard in order to put down additional tanks. When working they found a large pot. Matthew immediately told his men it was dinner time,but when they went home
it wanted twenty minutes of the [?] When they returned they found the pot was raised but the tracks of gold soverings was plainly to be seen all over the pot. The owner was in struggling circumstances at the time.
Soon after he got immensely rich. He built a new tan-yard on Creeva Beg road. He [?] a great leather establishment in Mullingar,and another large farm near Ballymahon. A crock of silver was found at [?] Tang,two miles south of Ballymahon(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
