  1. Once upon a time there was a man and he lived happily with his wife and six children, the youngest child being 3 months and the eldest 8 years. the mother fell sick and died and the man was in terrible trouble and a month after this he thought god was not fair to him and he turned out an awful drunkard. Nearly every night he used go off to the bar and stay there drinking till eleven or twelve o clock at night. Some nights he used never return home and he'd leave the poor children there by themselves and the neighbours wondered how they were saved from being burned in the fire or hurt. One night the man went off to the bar as usual and he kept on drinking till ten o'clock. At ten he thought there was something telling him that there was something wrong at home. So he went home and just as he was going in the door he saw his wife sitting at the fire with all the children round her and she having the youngest one on her lap and he noticed that she was crying. Just as he walked in she dropped the child in its cot
