    Lord Maurice Fitzgerald of Johnstown Castle about two miles from Wexford town objected to the holy-water font in the porch of the once Catholic Church of Rathaspeck. He had it removed but on the following morning it was in the usual place. The same thing occurred three times, then Lord Maurice becoming enraged struck the font with a hatchet chipping off a particle of stone which struck him in the eye destroying the sight. After that he did not interfere again with the water-font but the children are warned if they look at it through the keyhole of the usually locked door they will get a spit in the eye for being so curious.
    Several years ago when a ship was lost off the Wexford coast two sailor-one a Catholic and the other a Protestant were drowned and their bodies were not recovered. The sailors' wives, the neighbours and a priest were gathered together on the shore. The Catholic wife begged the priest to recover her husband's body. He got a sheaf of corn, and placing a lighting candle in the corn, he set the sheaf
