- The people around here prepare the ground for potatoes by ploughing it first.
Then they harrow it to make it fine; then they make the drills. The drills are made with a plough.
They put manure and phosphate in the ground before they put in the potatoes.
When the potatoes are sowed they are covered with mould which is ploughed in.
The people weed and scuffle the potatoes in the Summer. When this is done nothing else is done with them until they are sprayed. In July they may be dug up for eating in small quanties. The people use a digger to take the potatoes out of the soil.
When the are dug out they are carried home in cars to the house to be sorted. The fair sized potatoes are kept for seed, the big ones for eating, and the small ones for feeding animals. If the seed are too big they are cut smaller before sowing. The best ground for potatoes is warm, dry ground.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
