  1. there are only three forges in this Parish. One of these is in the townland of Blue Ball owned by Samuel Murphy. there is another in the town land of Gurteen. The other one is in Killoughey owned by Pat Molloy. In these forges most of the work is done inside in the forg.Wheels ae bound outside the forge. In these forges there are clay floors. In Samuel Murphy's forge the fire is on the middle of the floor. This smith shoes horses and donkeys, and he also repairs ploughs and harrows and other implements.

  2. There are about four forges in this parish. One of them is situated about six miles and a half South West of Tullamore which is in the Co. Offaly. The smiths name is Samuel Murphy of Blue Ball. This is the nearest one to us. this forge is made of wood. There is a double
