- The birds commonly found in this district are :- The wren, robin, blackbird, thrush, skylark, sparrow, swallow, cuckoo, magpie, pigeon, crow, and jackdaw. The swallow and cuckoo go to warmer countries for the Winter.
The wrens nest is found in holes in walls. It make a tiny nest of clay, grass and moss and neatly lines it with hair, wool and feathers. It lays from fifteen to eighteen eggs. The female bird sits on the eggs for three weeks. The male bird brings her food and sings a little song between times. The female bird cannot let the eggs get cold or the birds will not come out. If anyone breathes on a bird's egg or touches them, the bird will forsake them.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
