    There was a man one night coming from a friend's house.

    There was a man one night coming from a friend's house. He came out along fields for a short cut to the road. There was an ass on the road when he came out. He rode the ass for a mile of the road and he thought he heard the owner of the ass after him. He got off his back and got into a field. There was a lake in the field about two foot deep. He came along by the ditch till he met with the water. He took across the field to the opposite side and when he went to the ditch of the opposite side as he thought he found himself exactly at the same point he had started from. He made a fresh start and the same thing occurred several times. Finally he had to cross the water to get out on the road again. When he was on the road the footsteps still were after him. He walked about a quarter of a mile along the road and he got in over a wall that
