- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Long ago people had only three meals a day which consisted of porridge for breakfast, potatoes for dinner and supper. The people had to work a couple of hours before they got anything to eat. They did not eat late at night their last meal was at six o'clock.
On a feast day the rich man killed a sheep and invited his best friends to feast on it. Once a year the people had tea and that was on Christmas Day or Easter Sunday. The poorer class had no table. The potatoes were boiled in a pot, the water was drained off them, then the potatoes were put into a basket made of sallies. It was placed on the pot in the centre of the floor. Sometimes they had buttermilk and salt and at other times salt herrings were placed on a tongs(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
