  1. A Local Song (ar lean)

    I am a rover that's sailing over

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
All round the valleys of Murmod Hill.
There's gold and money with milk and honey
Possessed by many without a lie
There's peace and plenty with dishes dainty.
To hail the scanty when drawing nigh
    No ostentation deprives sensation
    But obligation to virtues will.
Although I must rove to a distant cove
From the homely valleys of Murmod Hill
The Shannon shore with the river Nore
The pass secure through the mazy wood
The Thames and Rhine with the river Nile
That enriched the soil with its ebbing flood
None can compare with that river clear
Whose transparent steerage the banks doth fill
Its spiral form adds to the charm
All round the valleys of Murmod Hill
The speckled trout with the salmon stout
The delicious perch and the pretty bream
That bestowed a smile on the angler's toil
From that limpid stream in the mossy dale
The mystic ginn in his cunning den
Whose voice so shrill in the night so still
