Casey's Cross is situated about three miles outside Nenagh. It got its name from a man named Christopher Casey who protected two Chalices from Cromwell.
When Cromwell came to Nenagh, he burned the old abbey. he then went out to Casey's Cross. When Casey heard of coming of Cromwell he went to the church and got the Blessed Sacrament.
After saving the two vessels he went to hide them but after he had them hidden he was found by a soldier going home. Mr Casey never lived to tell where the Sacred Vessels were hidden but it is said that they are hidden in a field out around Casey's Cross.
That is the reason why it is called Casey's Cross after Christopher Casey.- Bailitheoir
