Once a man named Gleeson who inhabited a place outside Nenagh called Crushaney was said to have helped Cromwell by lifting guns over a hill with the aid of his horse. Cromwell then shot the horse because he did not wish anyone to have a better horse than himself.
Many people say that Cromwell was a shoe-maker but others say it was one of his generals who asked Cromwell if he needed anything that he would do whatever he needed and Cromwell told him to go and be a shoe-maker, and the general did.- Bailitheoir
