- Christmas: To light a candle on every window and leave it lighting till it is wasted. It is a boy should light it and if it quenches it self during the time it is lighting it is a sign that some one will die before next Christmas. The people leave the door open because Our Lady and the little Child and Saint Joseph are out that night. They leave it open until after twelve o clock that night. If you see sparks on the candle that is a sign that you are going to get a parcel and if the sparks fall it is a sign that they are at the post office.
St. Stephens Day. All the boys of the parish go out hunting the wren. Some times there are big boys out. They are dressed in old coats and hats and boots and they play on a mouth organ and dance. When they come to a house they play and dance a few steps on the floor and they have a box and my father would put a shilling or sixpence into it.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
