From Christmas day until old Christmas day would be called the twelve days of Christmas.
During these days there would be parties and dances in every house.
On new year's eve some people stay up to see the old year out and the new year in. It is thought unlucky to throw out water or ashes on new year's day. It is said if the first person you meet on new year's day has red hair it is a sign of bad luck and if they have black hair it is a sign of good luck.
The first of May is called May day, on that day some people dress a bush in front of the door with may flowers.
