Nowadays, if the married couple do not give a "spree" in the brides home they are "kettled". A spree is a party consisting of a dance where drink, generally a half barrel of stout and whiskey, are supplied. The dance is held on a loft, and the bride and groom start the dance. This is how those who do not give a spree are kettled. Large bottles are got and woollen thread is tied around the bottoms, this is then burned, it having been first soaked in paraffin oil, and the bottoms fall out.
