Four or six children gather together. They get a bit of a strong stick about eighteen feet long. This is called the Dog. They get a short piece about six inches and pare both ends of it. This is the Tat.The children divide into two teams. Those who are "in" put the tat at the "Granny" or stone for darting place. One child takes the dog and tries to drive the tat as far as possible.She throws the tat and tries to hit the Dog, which is lying beside the Granny". If she hits the Dog the player is out and another child takes a hand. If she does not hit the "Granny" and gets a pop she hops the Tat from her forehead. If she does not get a hop she has to bevel it, that means to drop it beside the "Granny". [?] If the other child gets five lengths of the Dog she is five. They play on that way until they are a hundred [?] Dan! The player then hits the tat with the Dog, and drives it away from the Granny. She has three chances and(continues on next page)
