  1. The foregoing song was composed about a house in Arva called Mulligan's Fort. It was owned by a man named Andy Vance and a man named Mulligan was its tenant. For non-payment of rent or for some other reason he was evicted and Vance same to occupy it himself. He was boycotted by the majority of his neighbours. He was then obliged to get two policemen to guard him. There were commonly called R.I.C. It was when the police were guarding him that the song was composed.
