  1. In olden days there was very little arable land
and owing to that the old people had to work very hard. All had to be done with spades and very odd farmers had a plough or harrow to cultivate their land properly they had to lime it all over and where it was low and wet they had to shore it or drain it to prepare it for root crops. In their own way they were handier people than the people nowadays for instance to winow corn they made a saw of goat skin called a vite and nearly every man grew a nice sized field of rods because in them days there was very little or no slated houses all little thatched houses for one reason they the rods was for scollaps and or baskets and creels because all stuff had to be hugged in creels on donkeys backs.
