    they advanced there and attacked the Republicans. The Free-Staters thought that the most of the Republicans were in Irwin's house and attacked it with all their force. So instead there was only one man there, who held the house until the battle was over. When the Free-Staters had to retreat when six of the Soldiers were killed and 19 captured. The Republicans escaped without one killed or wounded. There is a Monument in memory of the six who were killed.
