  1. There were no schools long ago. They used to teach the children in houses and some times in barns. When summer came they used to be taught outside. The teachers used to get no pay, but the children to give a penny a day. They used make their ink from the juice of black berries, and their pens from goose quills. The people long ago used not talk any Irish. The teacher used to sleep at night in one of the neighbour's houses. There were no desks only stools. They used to get only one play.
