“About a hundred years ago there lived a little girl named Annie Deacy in a village named Knockmore in the parish of Bailenahaglish.”

When Annie Deacy grew up to be a big girl, she went to America, and worked there as a servant. One night she was sitting in the kitchen in the house, in which she worked, sewing. There was nobody in the house but herself, and the doors were all locked. Nobody could enter except the people of the house who had latch keys. Suddenly she heard footsteps and looking up from her work she saw a man standing quite near her. She looked in amazement at him, but he smoothly siad "why are you so surprised".
